Ultima 2 Mono Power Amp
Ultima 2 is the second mono block in the range, directly below the flagship, and it replaced the SPM 6000 MKII — the amplifier a good many people still consider the high point of Chord's previous generation. Seven hundred and fifty watts into 8 ohms, 1,305 into 4, from the Ultima topology: class AB with sliding bias, dual feed-forward error correction, Chord's own MOSFETs, fully balanced throughout, and convection-cooled so there is no fan to hear. Forty-one kilos and seventy-five centimetres deep, which is a fair warning about the shelf. Choose it over an Ultima 3 when the loudspeakers are genuinely hard to drive rather than merely large. Monoblocks, so a stereo pair means two.
