Chord Electronics Ultima 2 Mono Power Amp amplifier

Your speakers are not just big, they are genuinely hard to drive, and your room is to match. Ultima 2 is the monoblock just below the top, and it replaced the SPM 6000 MKII — for many people still the high point of Chord's previous generation. Seven hundred and fifty watts into 8 ohms, 1,300 into 4, from the Ultima circuit, and convection cooled: no fan to hear late at night. What you get in return is that the amplifier drops out of the story — what you hear is your loudspeaker, and everything it can do. Choose it over an Ultima 3 when your speakers genuinely ask for it, not because they are big. Forty-one kilos and seventy-five centimetres deep, so measure your shelf before you order; and a stereo pair is two.
