You want one box that is the whole amplifier — no preamp, no power amp, no stack — without giving up on what Ultima means. This is the only full-width integrated amplifier Chord makes, the first new one in seven years: 125 watts into 8 ohms from the error correction that corrects the signal before the output stage. HiFi.nl gave it a 9 and wrote that it “never disappoints, either in sound quality or in dynamic power”; fairaudio called it “the most honest amplifier I have yet been able to hear in my setup” and, even at that price, could find nothing to criticise. No phono stage and no converter on board — add a Huei or a Qutest — and whoever needs more than 125 watts goes to Pre 3 plus Ultima 5, in two boxes.
