You have the Ultima monoblocks, or you are on your way to them, and you are looking for the preamplifier that belongs with them, not one that will also do. This is it. Ultima Pre is true dual mono — two separate channels, each with its own power supply — noise floor -120 dB. You hear that not in the music but in the silence around it: between two notes there is nothing, and a voice that starts softly starts out of nowhere. Each one is built by a single technician in Kent from start to finish. Eight inputs, three outputs, separate tone control left and right, headphone outputs for late evenings. Thirty kilos, double height — that goes onto the rack with two people — and above it there is nothing. Whoever has many sources and no monoblocks has enough in a Pre 2.
